Logitech Z3 2.1 stereo speakers

The Logitech Z3 is a very low cost 2.1 speaker system with surprisingly good sound. The speakers look great with real wood veneer and cast aluminium stands. Despite not having any tweeters the sound is still bright and clear with a punchy bottom end from the sub.

Good looking, inexpensive but with surprisingly good sound.

They sound as good as they look and for under $100 are a great buy for those looking for a sound upgrade.

The Logitech Z3 2.1 an inexpensive sound upgrade

Since most computer uses sit quite close to their speakers the low power output of this system is not a major concern. However is you're planning on turning your computer into a Hi Fi Mp3 system then you'll be looking at spending quite a lot more.

The system has a little remote control only has a big button for the volume, an on/off push button and a headphone jack. The headphone jack on the wired remote is a good idea. However the bad news is the bass level is adjusted on the sub woofer itself which is not exactly practical.

Another criticism of the design is that the plug that connects the satellites and remote can easy be accidentally pulled out of the back of the sub woofer killing the sound. This is only a minor annoyance though.

Here are the specifications:

  • 2.1 system (2 stereo and sub woofer)
  • Standard RCA line input into sub woofer
  • Frequency response 35 Hz - 15 kHz
  • Bass amplification output 23 W
  • Satellite amplification output 2 X 8.5 W

The Logitech Z3 is a budget system

With such a low price you have to expect concessions. The system is not massively loud and sound quality is never going to comparable to more expensive systems with 2 way satellite speakers. However the sub woofer gives out good bass response and the system does sound better than the sum of it's parts.

I really liked the look of the complete system as well. I think this is really a gamers sound system rather than something to play music on. The sub will please you with thudding gunshots and the lack of high range definition will hardly be missed in a gaming environment. For the money the Logitech Z3 is worth a look.
