Cambridge SoundWorks MegaWorks 550 5.1 Computer Speaker Review
Great sound quality and power but you have to pay for it
If you're after one sound system to handle computer games, music and movies in surround sound then the MegaWorks 550 has to be on your list.
Cambridge SoundWorks MegaWorks 550 5.1 a little pricey but if sound quality is important to you...
The MegaWorks 550 5.1 consists of four satellite speakers, as well as a central channel, each of which has a power of 70W when measured in Burst mode and not RMS. Add to this a woofer that's powerful at 150-watt but is also very compact.
The MegaWorks 550 5.1 claims to have a bandwidth of 25 Hz through 20 KHz and a signal-to-noise ratio of 99 dB. As regards the connectors, there's no digital minijack input, but there are three analog minijack inputs for 5.1 sound and an auxiliary input, also in mini jack form.
Audio quality as we've already said is superb. Bass is clearly defined with no muddiness and the higher ranges are all crisp. The BASH system does it's job of preventing distortion even at maximum volume. When you have transiently loud sections of a movie or game you'll get a clear powerful signal which is all you want really.
Here are the specifications:
- Wired command module
- THX certified 5 satellites (150Hz-20kHz), 1 sub (25Hz-150Hz)
- Total output power 500 Watt
- surround analog inputs, no digital inputs
- No Dolby decoding
Cambridge SoundWorks MegaWorks 550 5.1 for those who value quality
