Samsung HT-DB600 Surround Speakers Review

The Samsung HT-DB600 5.1 surround speaker system is a good all rounder for games, music and movies. Although it comes with a DVD changer the low cost (under $300) makes a great choice of speaker system to use with your computer. The 5 disc DVD/CD player basically comes as a feebie that will allow you to use the system when the computer is off.

The fashion seems to be silver at the moment so you'll either be happy that the Samsung is shiny or sad that it won't match the black components you already have.

The built in amplifier delivers 80 watts rms to each of the 5 satellite speakers and 100 watts rms to the beefy sub woofer. This looks good on paper but the system is not quite as loud as some others I've heard. If you're the type of person who listens loudly you may want to consider a larger system.

Connectivity selections are more than adequate for a computer based system. For audio, there are two sets of stereo inputs and one optical digital in. On the video side, you get two composite-video inputs; composite and S-Video outs; a progressive-scan component-video output for optimal DVD quality on digital TVs; and a set of component-video inputs, which let you easily switch between the unit's DVD player and a high-definition satellite or cable box.

This may seem like overkill for a computer based system but more connections are always better and the video connectors will help you get the most out of your graphics cards TV out.

We really liked the design of the remote which wasn't over cluttered with buttons and was easy to get the hang of.

Sound quality is excellent with powerful bass response, the satellites' midrange and treble clarity were also more refined than the competition's. The advantages of the satellite's two-way design were sonically obvious.

Samsung HT-DB600 computer speakers, very good value, versatile system

With a built in DVD player/changer the Samsung HT-DB600 would make an excellent addition to a computer based multimedia setup. You'd remote controlled playback of music plus a fantastic speaker setup for surround sound gaming. When you've had enough of gaming you can switch the computer off and watch a DVD.

As I said at the beginning think of the DVD changer as a bonus because at this price the sound quality you get is simply fantastic.
